TRUMP’S OFFER FALLS SHORT OF FAVOUR

NY Times/Donald Trump

“The number you have dialed is currently switched off”, minority whites in South Africa say to Trump and Musk's offer to relocate them to the USA. The 47th United States President on Friday signed an executive order to cut U.S. aid to South Africa, citing an expropriation act that President Cyril Ramaphosa signed last month aiming to redress land inequalities that stem from South Africa's history of white dominance.

Digging deep in history. Afrikaners are a group of white South Africans who descended mainly from Dutch settlers who arrived around 370 years ago. In 1950, the Apartheid-era National Party seized 85% of the land, forcing 3.5 million Black people from their homes. The newly enforced law seeks to address land ownership disparities - which has left three-quarters of privately owned land in the hands of the white minority-making it easier for the state to expropriate land in the public interest. Afrikaners in South Africa currently make up 7% of the country's population while owning 70% of the land.

Rules and more rules.

To address the “backlashes” of the newly enforced law, Trump, alongside his South-African born adviser, Elon Musk, signed an expropriation act to relocate white Afrikaners over a “black-based injustice account”. The act sets to condemn South Africa's alleged ignorance to violence against white communities, describing it as unfavourable. The 47th president of the United States also signed an executive order, cutting off over $440m in USAID funding to South Africa, exposing the country's health sector to grey skies.

The tides meet a stiff wall. White minority groups in South Africa have described the United States' claims as false, having experienced no form of racial disingenuity in the country. "If you haven't got any problems here, why would you want to go," said Neville van der Merwe, a 78-year-old pensioner in Bothasig, near Cape Town. Contrary to Trump's intention, Afrikaners opt to remain in their birth state. It'll worth a watch to watch the resolution in the coming weeks.
